Slovakia
There are 33 licensed radio stations operating in Slovakia. Making up the five leading networks are three commercial stations (Expres, Viva, OKEY/Europa 2 and Fun) and the public broadcaster Slovenský Rozhlas.
The private radio sector is composed of some of the following operators: Radio Expres (acquired by the American Emmis Group in 2005), Radio Viva, OKEY/Europa 2 and Fun Radio . In 2006, there were 23 private radio stations in all, of which seven were multiregional. 2007 saw the arrival of newcomers on the national arena such as Jemné Mélodie, Radio Presov and Radio One.
The public service is represented by the national broadcaster Slovenský Rozhlas with its main interest channels Radio Slovensko, Radio Regina (with three regional studios), Radio Devin (arts, culture and classical music), Radio FM (youth and alternative music) and Radio Slovakia International (for expats). Due to recent changes in the license fee pricing structure, these radios have been suffering financial setbacks and in June 2009, the Slovak state announced it was going to give the sector nearly three million euro as compensation for loss of revenue.
During recession has Radio Expres increased the business packets and started to fight with low client’s budgets. 2009 was strong for mobile operators and shopping malls. We made our own campaign for advertisers to stay with Radio Expres and have their advertising at the place where it really works.
